Nikon xxArray: Capturing Photorealistic 3-D Models

If you like photobooths, this will bring your experience in a whole new level. Nikon powered camera studio xxArray is an immersive photobooth that creates photorealistic 3-D models with the push of a button.

The technology is being used to launch Art and Skin, a 3-D tattoo magazine on the iPadIt is built with a group of 64 Nikon D5200 cameras. Agisoft Photoscan software stitches the 15 gigapixel images together to make a whole 3-D model.

Usually the process is labor intensive, but by using Python scripting the Art and Skin team has accelerated the process to 90% automated and 10% manual. After the video, there is a sample of what the xxArray can do. This technology has the potential to easily make media stand out in a whole new level.
