Vessyl: The Smart Cup

What if your cup could know what you are drinking? Vessyl is a smart cup that can automatically determine what kind, how many calories, and other nutritional contents of any liquid that is poured in.

Justin Lee, who has a background in biomedical computing from Queen’s University, wanted to build the next "internet of things" device. He enlisted Yves Béhar, the Jawbone and One Laptop Per Child designer, to build a first-of-a-kind smart cup.
The result is Vessyl, a sensor-packed, 13-ounce cup that recognizes any beverage you pour into it, displays its nutritional content, and syncs your drinking habits to your smartphone. Vessyl measure sugar, protein, calories, fat, and caffeine content. A bright blue line display that raises and falls tacks and indicates your hydration level. Vessyl is shipping in early 2015 at a cost of $199.99, with preorders for $99.
