Pasona dedicated its internal space- from conference rooms and private offices; to hydroponic and soil-based farming. The renovated exterior include vertical gardens, with seasonal flowers and orange trees in its balconies. This system provides shading to reduce energy use and enhanced air quality to improve the employee's health.
With a shortage of arable land in Japan (only 12%), the country’s food supply is highly unsustainable thus growing its reliance on foreign food. With urban farming, Pasona hopes to educate new farmers, while exposing urban people to growing food. Employees are encouraged to care and cultivate crops, which are eaten on site in the office cafeteria. The office has created 43,000 square feet of farmland with 200 species or fruits, vegetables and rice. We hope that someday every office will be like this.
