Jawbone UP: 3 Million Hours of User Testing

"People know more about their iPhone than they do their own health." So how do we make them consumers of their own wellness? Jawbone is trying to solve this problem with the UP, a $100 wristband, smartphone app, and web app trio working together to monitor your exercise habits, sleep cycles, and eating decisions.

Armed with $120 million in venture capital raised in just the last year, UP is intended to put Jawbone squarely within the $52 billion weight loss market and the $24 billion sleep-aid market. The wristband is meant to be worn 24 hours a day. It can monitor your daily activities, your sleeping stages, and your food and meals. The product failed immensely.

Round Two

Almost a year later, Jawbone is rereleasing the Up ( costs $129.) It looks exactly the same on the outside, but it’s fully redesigned on the inside. Every single component redesigned, with 46 weeks of field trials accumulated 3 million hours of real-world human testing. It has added LED feedback right on the device, so you always knew how close you were to your goal with the push of a button. The software has also been redesigned according to feedback. Will this work?
